Pressure regulators

Self-operated regulators

Direct-acting pressure reducing valves for steam, water and gases. The equipment automatically maintains the set outlet pressure without electrical power, compressed air or an external control signal.

Operating principle

Self-operated pressure control

The regulator uses the energy of the process medium itself. A change in the outlet pressure is sensed by the sensing element and directly moves the control element of the valve.

Application

The regulators are used as stand-alone devices or as components of pressure reducing stations to reduce and stabilise the pressure of liquids, gases and steam.

  • RV-G — grey cast iron body, nominal pressure PN 16.
  • RV-Č — cast steel body W.Nr. 1.0619, nominal pressure PN 40.

"G" diaphragm

A sensing element with a synthetic rubber diaphragm is used for set pressures from 0.05 to 3 bar.

"K" bellows

A W.Nr. 1.4571 bellows unit is used for set pressures above 3 bar and up to 12 bar.

Design

Two functional units

The pressure reducing valve consists of a control unit and a sensing element. They are connected by an impulse line whose length is chosen according to the temperature of the process medium.

For steam and media with a temperature above 120 °C, an extended connecting tube is used to reduce the thermal load on the diaphragm or the bellows.

No electrical power, compressed air or external controller is required.

02

Maximum setting pressure

Up to 12 bar for the PN 16 and PN 40 designs.

03

Process media

Water, steam, industrial gases and compatible process liquids.

Installation in pressure reducing stations

Stand-alone installation or integration into a complete pressure reducing assembly is possible.

Engineering selection

Selecting the regulator and the pressure drop

Selection is based on the flow rate, the process medium, the inlet and outlet pressures, the temperature and the required setting range.

Water

Allows a substantial pressure reduction in a single stage when the flow capacity is correctly selected.

Compressed air

Permits a large pressure drop, but the flow velocity and the noise level have to be checked.

Steam

With a large pressure drop, the rise in velocity, possible erosion and the service life of the control unit must be taken into account.

Recommended P1/P2 ratio

In practice it is recommended not to exceed 4:1. For a larger drop, staged pressure reduction is considered.

Kv selection

The minimum flow rate should be at about 40 % of travel and the maximum at about 60 % of the valve travel.
